A Global Strategy for the Control and Eradication, SMCE, of “peste des petits ruminants” has been adopted with variations at regional, sub-regional and national levels. On the continent, the African Union, the Inter-African Bureau of Animal Resources, AU-IBAR, is the operational body for the implementation of this strategy. In Central Africa, it is the Economic Commission for Livestock, Meat and Fisheries Resources, CEBEVIRHA.
It works alongside the two Regional Economic Communities, RECs. That is, the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa, CEMAC, and the Economic Community of Central African States, ECCAS. The implementation of the National Plan is one of the urgent priorities of MINEPIA, including the Economic, Financial, Social and Cultural Programme of Cameroon. It is a program spread over 3 years: 2019, 2020 and 2021. From 2022, Cameroon will start controlling the disease in a bid to ensure that the virus is no longer circulating in the national herd.
