The person who discovered the virus that causes the disease comes from Cameroon. Dr Albert Douffissa also attended the ceremony in Nanga-Éboko. He discovered the virus back in 1985 in Meiganga in the Mbéré division. The other major contribution concerns the production of the vaccine. It is called Capripestovax. The live vaccine is produced from the strain of the virus causing “peste des petits ruminants”. This was done by the National Veterinary Laboratory, LANAVET.
