The imperative is most categorical. It tackles the eradication of “peste des petits ruminants”. 2030 is known to be the unchallengeable deadline. The campaign is a global programme. Cameroon has joined it. A National Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of the disease has been carefully prepared by the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries.It was supported by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, FAO, and the World Trade Organisation, WTO.
Its implementation falls within the scope of the emergencies listed in MINEPIA’s priorities. The document is in line with Cameroon’s Economic, Financial, Social and Cultural Programme. The government speech disclosed the figure of 8 million sheep and goats to be vaccinated. MINEPIA via PRODEL has taken up that challenge. The repetitive operation covers 3 years: 2019,2020 and 2021. As early as 2022, Cameroon will to start monitoring the disease. It will be a matter of ensuring that the virus is no longer circulating in the national herd.
